John Muir’s Herbarium – Plant samples collected in and around Indianapolis

A partial inventory follows, with the plant’s botanical name, common name, date collected, and habitat found in (using Muir’s original notes, written on a slip of paper with each sample). Duplicate and triplicate samples are indicated with the notation “2x” and "3x"; missing information is indicated with the “---” notation.

The complete, inventoried herbarium is now part of the archives at the John Muir National Historic Site, Martinez, California.

Other samples in the herbarium were collected in Canada and are not included here; some samples do not indicate either location and are recorded at the bottom of the chart.
