1856:  Republican Rally in Goshen  

The Goshen Democrat reported on a Republican rally in Elkhart County.  It stated,

Tremendous Gathering! Immense Outpouring of Niggers, Monkeys and other Black Republicans

Last Thursday was a proud day for the nigger-kissers of Elkhart County.  Huge posters, announcing the most rampant abolitionists in the Union to be present, were circulated in every nook and hamlet - in every gorgeously fitted parlor and less pretending nigger-hut - on every church door and in every gin-pop saloon…”
