1862:  Blacks Forced to Leave Ft. Wayne

The Ft. Wayne Sentinel reported, “It was determined that our city would no longer be infested with these black skinned scoundrels and a crusade was inaugurated against the darkies.”  Many African Americans were escorted out of Ft. Wayne; others were strongly encouraged to leave.
