July 4, 1903:  Militia Called to Evansville

In Evansville, a Caucasian mob terrorized people in the African American community prior to the shooting of a Caucasian policeman.  The alleged shooter was removed from Evansville, but the mob stormed the jail anyway.  The militia was called in by the governor to stop the riots.  Eleven African Americans were killed.
