1944:  Muncie Youth Shot in Leg

Two African American youth were sitting on the banks of the White River, watching Caucasian men work.  One of the workers pulled out a .22 caliber rifle and aimed it at the youths.  The worker fired the rifle and shot one of the young men in the leg.  The worker was arrested, but claimed that the shooting was an accident.  The worker then offered to pay for the young man’s medical bills if the charges were dropped.
