1995:  Klan Membership Records Discovered

Don Roberts of Noblesville discovered a trunk that contained the 1923-1926 membership lists of the local Ku Klux Klan chapter.  The lists contained the names of some high-profile people in Noblesville.  As the Daily Ledger reported, “If you didn’t belong to the Ku Klux Klan, you essentially weren’t part of the community.”  Unfortunately, relatives of these individuals still lived in community. Therefore, when the list was given to the local Historical Society, the organization decided to restrict access to it to protect the identities of the Klansmen’s descendants.  However, some African American leaders believe the list should be part of the public record.
