About our Work

The LGBTQ+ Theatre for Youth Project is a collaborative research endeavor that begins with a basic question; “where are the queer youth plays?”. As more and more playwrights write for youth audiences and as more explore the intersections of gender identity, sexuality, youth, race, ability, etc., we have been left poking around in website search bars. This website is an opportunity to catalog and centralize the variety of queer youth theatre.

We also recognize that any project that seeks to catalog and analyze work will always be in process. We ask for your patience and understanding as we strive to make the best resource we can.

Our website is inspired by the AMAZING work underway at the Holocaust Theatre Catalogue, presented by the National Jewish Theatre Foundation, and a part of the University of Miami. We borrowed from their website organization, and their use of categories to guide the search process, and you will see many similarities between our website and theirs. They are a model of how to catalog theatre texts in an effective, visually clear way, while also attending to the substance of the play itself.

Project Website

The development of the LGBTQ+ Theatre for Youth Project website was a collaboration with Ball State University Libraries’ Office of Digital Scholarship. ODS advances the creation, dissemination, and preservation of Open Access research and digital scholarship created at Ball State University. To explore other digital scholarship hosted and developed by ODS, visit digitalresearch.bsu.edu. The website was developed by the ODS staff below:
