Cassius is playing a game of chess where both her allies and her tormentors are the chess pieces. The black pieces defend the youth while the white pieces represent various voices bullying her and speaking against her trans identity. The white team loses, in part, because the white pawn doesn’t want to put on a dress to become a queen.
