Research Process

Caitlin Osburn Writing Ideas During Group Discussions

There were two main parts to the research process within this class. First, we researched the different pollinators in Indiana and their importance. Additionally, we researched the site itself, looking for opportunities to enhance an existing part of the library through the addition of the monarch waystation.

Pollinators

Moths, butterflies, hummingbirds, bees, and beetles are some of the native pollinators that support our ecosystems, here in Indiana. Since this project is an addition to existing community gardens at the Maring-Hunt library, supporting pollinators is important to help the success of the crops grown there. While our main focus is on providing habitat for monarch butterflies, we had the opportunity to provide pollen and nectar for other native pollinators within our designs. This also provides educational opportunities for the children at the library, as they will be able to have first-hand experience of the importance of pollinators.

Site Analysis

Site Analysis

The main goal of the site analysis is to highlight the existing features on the site. The library already has a great garden space, so it is important to enhance what is already existing and take the context of the site into consideration.
